Sound play for growing voices.

Tiny Talkers: Sound Play for Growing Voices – A playful children’s book to support early speech sound development

Tiny Talkers is a joyful and empowering children’s picture book created to support little ones (ages 2–5) who are learning to use new sounds in their speech. This engaging, sound-rich story helps children explore the building blocks of speech in a fun and pressure-free way.

The story follows a group of friendly characters who model playful sound-making as they explore the world around them—Tapping Turtle, bye-bye Brave Birdy, and Sleepy Sloth!

Designed with speech development in mind, Tiny Talkers encourages sound play, imitation, and confidence for children who are just beginning to find their voice.

Written by a speech pathologist, this book is more than a story—it’s a tool for families, educators, and therapists to nurture early communication and celebrate every sound, no matter how small.

Tiny Talkers is a beautiful and practical resource for children who are developing speech sounds, offering connection, fun, and language-rich moments every time you read.

Perfect for You If
You’re supporting a child aged
2–5 years who:

Isn’t yet saying all the speech sounds expected for their age

Is showing early or emerging preverbal communication skills, such as:

  • Watching your face during interactions

  • Making sounds or gestures to get your attention

  • Reaching, pointing, giving, or showing objects

  • Starting to imitate sounds, actions, or facial expressions

  • Taking part in shared play or moments of joint attention

You’re on a waitlist for speech therapy, in-between sessions, or wanting to do more at home to support your child’s communication journey in a fun, pressure-free way.

You want to create joyful, sound-rich moments at home, using play, movement, and character-based learning — not flashcards or drill.

You’re a parent, career, early childhood educator, or speech pathologist who values connection, imagination, and engagement as the foundation for speech and language development.

You love the idea of turning everyday toys and routines — like cars, blocks, bubbles, or bath time — into meaningful speech practice moments.

Frequently Asked Questions

💬What if my child doesn’t talk yet?

That’s completely okay.

Tiny Talkers was designed for children who are showing early or emerging communication skills, such as looking at your face, imitating your actions, pointing, or babbling. Even if your child isn’t using words yet, introducing playful sound models during shared play can support their communication development in a natural and engaging way. It's all about building interest, confidence, and connection around sounds.

💬 Do I need to be a speech pathologist to use this?

Not at all!

Tiny Talkers was created by a speech pathologist using strategies grounded in research — but intentionally made for parents, careers, and educators to use during everyday play. Each card includes an easy-to-understand phrase, image, and movement suggestion. You’ll also get simple tips and guides to help you feel confident modelling sounds in a playful, relaxed way.

💬 What if my child doesn’t like sitting still?

That’s actually ideal!

Young children learn best through movement, play, and exploration. These cards are designed to be used while playing on the floor, with toys, or even running around outside. Instead of requiring sitting and concentrating, they support active learning — combining sounds with gestures, actions, and shared attention.

💬 Is this a replacement for speech therapy?

No — absolutely not!

Tiny Talkers is a play-based activity, not a therapy program or diagnostic tool. It’s designed to help children explore and practice speech sounds through fun, movement, and connection — especially helpful while, waiting for services, unable to access support due to location, navigating financial barriers, or simply needing something meaningful to use in the meantime.

While it’s not a substitute for speech therapy, Tiny Talkers can help lay the foundation for speech sound development in children who are ready to play, imitate, and explore. If your child is already working with a speech pathologist, we recommend checking in with them first to ensure Tiny Talkers complements — and doesn’t conflict with — your current therapy goals or strategies.

💡 Your speech pathologist may even suggest ways to tailor this book, model sounds, or build specific prompts based on your child’s individual needs.

💬 What if I don’t know how to pronounce the sound on the character/ page?

Don’t worry — we’ve got you covered! Each page includes a natural phrase that models the sound, and you’ll get access to a sound guide and helpful videos after purchase. You’ll be able to listen and repeat without stress — and even if it’s not perfect, your effort still helps.

💬 What if my child ignores the card or does something totally different?

That’s completely okay.

Children learn through play — not by following strict instructions. If they’re watching you, playing nearby, or joining in their own way, they’re still getting exposure to sounds and interaction. Just follow their lead and model the sound playfully. The goal is to create a positive, low-pressure experience with sounds.

💬 Is this suitable for older children?

Tiny Talkers is best suited for children aged 2–5 years who are still learning and refining their speech sounds. While some older children may still enjoy the characters or benefit from sound play, the content and design are tailored for early learners.
